Help your players improve their first-touch technique and dribbling skills in this practice. By MICHAEL BEALE
This is the ideal session to brush up on touch technique and to get individuals to run with the ball and look up to see the pass.
Set up an area of 15x15 yards with cones on the middle of each side of the square. We have used eight players.
Use two teams of four.
Two pairs from each team stand opposite each other on the cones at the sides.
Both teams must get the ball across the area but each has a different role.
One team dribbles the ball to the other side, and the other team has just two touches to get it across to their team-mates – one touch gets it out of their feet, the other to pass it.
The player who receives the ball comes back the other way.
On your call the groups switch roles.
Once players get the idea, make the area smaller to increase the intensity and give a time limit to see who can get the ball across the most times in 60 seconds.
Players must look up to avoid clashing with the other team while crossing the area. Look for smart dribbling and passing, especially when under time pressures.
