This session is all about setting up and supporting an attacker. If you want your players to learn how to score from a fast counterattack, this is a great session – and it also has possession and pressing action points. MORE
Score a goal (U8 activity)
Score a goal
KING OF THE SQUARE
“Look up to see the goal” • “Look at the position of the goalkeeper” • “Kick the ball into the goal”
Put a single cone 6 yards out from the centre of a goal and two other cones either side of the goal, 3 yards out.
Put a server either side of the goal and line up three or four players behind the central cone.
When you say “go”, the first player runs to one of the cones, receives a ball thrown in from the server and takes a shot at goal.
Servers must loop the ball in accurately and at a medium pace. Remember that young, inexperienced players will want to blast the ball into the goal with power, but from close range a side-foot shot made with clean contact and is usually enough to score.
How many players do I need?
We used six players in the activity.
