Put some festive spirit into your next training session with this Christmas-themed attacking session.
Attacking skills such as dribbling, shooting and passing.
Your players will appreciate you injecting fun into every training session, and none more so than at Christmas. Keep the pre-Christmas training light but reinforce basic skills so your players retain them during the winter break.

Lay out a triangle of cones each eight yards apart depending on the age and ability of your players.
Mark out a second triangle, the same size as the first, on top of the first triangle, so that the apex of the first triangle is the mid-point of the second triangle’s base.
Christmas tree – dribbling
Two players stand at the cone to the right. Working anticlockwise, player 1 dribbles around the course, in the direction shown in the top picture, demonstrating close control, and using the inside and outside of his feet.
When player 1 reaches the last cone, he passes to player 2, who repeats the drill.
To progress, players can try a variety of dribbling skills, such as dragging the ball sideways with the sole of the foot, stepovers with changes in direction, dragging the ball back behind the standing foot, etc.
Christmas tree – shooting Add two more cones. Both cones go on the outside of the current set-up, as shown in the middle picture.
Put a ball either side of the very top cone. Use a small goal five to 10 yards from the top cone.
Two players start at either of the base cones. On your signal, they sprint to and touch the cones, as shown in the picture, before running towards their ball and shooting at goal. The first player to score wins.
Santa and his elves deliver presents
Set up a 30 x 20 yards playing area with two five-yard end zones (sleighs), each with an equal number of balls (presents).
Use two teams, each nominates one “Santa” who must stay in the sleigh. The other players (elves) must not enter the sleighs.
Each team has to deliver as many presents as possible into the other team’s sleigh. Santa must pass the presents to his elves, who must be in their own half when they receive them.
Elves then dribble presents into the other team’s sleigh. Elves can tackle each other.
The team with the fewest balls in their sleigh at the end of the game wins.
