The question:
I’m a coach of three to four year olds and yesterday was my first ever practice. I was so nervous that I let the session over-run and I forgot the warm-up.
Could you tell me what a typical lesson at this level of soccer looks like because I really don’t have a clue!
Also, I hear there is no goalie at this age. Do the team still play offense and defense though?
I have eight players at my practice, so I could split four to a team and they could play a 4v4 game.
Does that sound like a good plan?
The answer:
It doesn’t matter about not warming the players up (3/4 year olds don’t need a warm up) but do try not to over-run.
Parents have other things to do and the children will get very tired!
Forget positions. Defense and offense mean nothing to a four year old. They just want to kick the ball!
This is what I would do with 3/4 year olds:
Really, the only thing that matters is that you and your kids have fun. So if a game isn’t working, stop doing it and play something else instead.
