EXPERT SESSIONS AND ADVICE FROM QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED GRASSROOTS SOCCER COACHES

A quick tip for throw-ins in youth soccer

Some coaches rely on one or two players (let’s call them designated throwers) to take all the teams throw-ins.

Sadly, the designated thrower ends up being the most exhausted player on the field.

He or she has to sprint up and down the sideline, or even across the field, to take a simple throw in that anyone could take.

Most adults would soon collapse under such a pace, but it is routinely required of U10s with little legs and little lungs.

So let any of your players throw the ball back into play.

I tell my team that the first player to get the ball takes the throw.

That way the throw-in is taken quickly, before the opposition has a time to get organized.
