Good warm-up to get players touching and turning with the ball. Pretty simple stuff but all the best dribblers in the world practise like this.
This is great for first touch and getting used to the conditions of the pitch on match days – fast/slow pitch, speed of pass, slippy or bouncy.
Set up
Set up an area 10×10 yards you need balls, bibs and cones. We used nine players in the session.
How to play it
Players stand in a circle with one ball. The player with the ball can pass to any other player in the circle. The two players either side of the receiver take two paces forwards (they ‘show’ to the receiver). One of them receives the ball and passes to the other who passes to another player in the circle and the sequence continues. Once players get the idea introduce another ball and see if they can cope with the constant movement.
Technique
Look for good weight and accuracy of the pass, good supporting angles and good first touch.
1. Players form a circle and one player has the ball and passes to another player in the group
2. The players either side of the receiver take two paces forwards to ‘show’ themselves to the receiver
3. The receiver passes to one of the two players who then passes to the other player
4. Now the second player picks out another member of the team and passes to him
5. The sequence continues with the players either side moving forwards
Reacting to quick transitions is key to this session, as is holding onto the ball under pressure. This includes using clever play to shield the ball and get passes away. MORE
Every young player in your team needs to feel comfortable to have the ball at his feet all the time - especially in tight areas of the pitch. The final part gives ownership of the session to the players. MORE
This training session is all about the ability to control the ball by passing in tight areas, taking advantage of moments of transition, and being coordinated to change the direction and angle of attack. MORE
The session splits the work into two parts: getting the ball wide and attacking in the final third. There are lots of individual responsibilities here, with the pitch in three parts and a job to be done in each zone. MORE
This game develops quick thinking midfielders like Christian Eriksen. Players like this can set up attacks by reacting quickly to moments of transition in a game, principally moving from defence to attack. MORE
Use this game to teach your players how to beat stubborn defenders. This session gives the attacking team a deadline to win the ball and score goals. MORE
