Operation overload – Practice

WHY USE IT

This 3v2 practice helps players understand the passing and moving pattern in a competitive scenario, encouraging them to take advantage of their superior numbers to create an overload and score goals.

SET UP

Set up a playing area with two mini goals at each end. Divide players into two teams, one starts as attackers and one starts as defenders.

HOW TO PLAY

The attacking team plays with a 3v2 advantage, looking to replicate the previous passing pattern to create opportunities to score goals. If the defending team wins possession, they can counter and score. Each team gets a set number of goes at being the attacking side, before swapping over.

COACHING POINTS

Ensure players are making sharp movements to lose their markers and receive the ball in space, drawing defenders out to create space for forward passes. Passes should be played at pace, with players receiving the ball with an open body to allow them to scan and play quickly.
