Develop your players' ability to play through a crowded midfield with this three-part session. By ROBERT FLEMING MORE
Receiving loud and clear – Small-Sided Game
WHY USE IT
This is a small-sided game to build on the skills developed in the practice.
Set up a pitch with two goals and end zones. Both teams have players 1v1 in the end zones to score.
HOW TO PLAY
Players are only locked in zones when in possession. To restart when a goal scored or not, all players must start in the middle zone. When the ball is back in play, players for the team in possession must look to get a player into the end zone before finishing in the goal.
The attackers to try to practice the two techniques in the previous parts of the session, working on movement and timing to receive, body shape to receive and first touch to enable a quick and accurate shot.
1. Set up an area with two end zones and goals
2. Teams look to get the ball into an attacker in the end zone to shoot
3. When a shot is taken, all players then restart from the middle area
