Three-part session where players look to create gaps and exploit it to retain possession. By STEPH FAIRBAIRN
This practice requires players to consider the use of space while working with a teammate to retain the ball.
Use the area defined in the warm-up. Players are split into threes to allow for 2v1. One ball between three.
Players are encouraged to use all of the area.
Set a timer for 60 seconds.
The team of two must keep the ball from their one opponent while avoiding the other groups.
Each team starts with 10 points - they lose one every time the opposing player wins the ball or they run into another team with their bodies or their ball.
After 60 seconds, rotate the defending player.
Adaptation: If it feels too chaotic to start with, you can introduce separate areas for each team – the team only loses a point when the defender wins the ball.
