Introduces some of the key elements around pressing.
This fun warm-up is a great way to introduce players to some of the key principles around pressing.
Mark out a playing area relative to the age and ability of your players. A smaller playing area will make success easier to come by, but equally may not promote the principles around pressing as clearly as a larger playing area, as players will naturally be closer together.
Split players into two teams. Play with one ball in hands. Teams score a point by tagging an opposing player with the ball. Players cannot move when holding the ball, so the game requires teamwork and communication for success.
Coaches should encourage communication for teams to try and isolate an opposing player to tag them with the ball. This introduces concepts of the nearest player pressing, with others providing cover and balance, as well as ideas around counter-pressing and transitional play.
