Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 117

In the last issue, our consultant coach Carl Wild introduced the theories around intercepting, alongside some practices to help you coach it to your players.

This week, Moritz Kossmann builds on it, looking at the nuances around the skill in more depth.

He talks about whether it is a natural action for players, how important communication is when it comes to interceptions and how players can build up their knowledge of the skill as they develop through the age groups.

Moritz also provides an interception practice of his own on page 10.

I hope you have been enjoying both Moritz and Carl’s series so far, and that it has been useful learning more about core soccer skills.

Elsewhere in this issue, Paul Barry discusses arrival activities - first, on page three, explaining why they are so useful and then, on page four, detailing the types of activities you might want to run before your session kicks-off properly.

We’ve then got a rondo activity from Rob Porter which is a great option to use as an arrival activity if Paul’s convinced you to give them a go.

Finally, there’s a session from Mark Snell which should support your players in their decision making about whether to pass or dribble.
