Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 130

This week, James Mayley is back with the second piece in his series on goalkeeping.

After looking at the four main roles a goalkeeper performs in the October 20 issue, James this week delves into the four key skills that shot-stoppers require to fulfil those roles. Spoiler alert: it's not just about stopping shots.

His work has really helped me, as a coach, strengthen my knowledge of the position and think more about how I can better support my goalkeeper.

Look out for more to come from James on the topic over the coming weeks and months.

Elsewhere this week, Sam Snow has interviewed Jamie Giger, director of operations at Mt Rainier FC in Washington State.

Sam and Jamie were roommates when they undertook the United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma 10 years ago.

The interview with Jamie reminds us that the connections we make in coaching are as important as anything else!

I am really enjoying the insight Sam’s series is giving us into different soccer journeys and roles.

Finally, this week’s session is a three-part practice which looks at creating gaps in the defence by switching play and then making the killer pass.
