Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 150

Welcome to your latest issue of SCW – the 150th of this second incarnation of the magazine.

To celebrate the landmark, we have put together an issue with an assortment of topics, covering skills drills, fitness work, player management and advice for novice volunteer coaches.

In doing so, we have drawn on the expertise of the editors of two of our sister titles.

Uefa B coach Hannah Duncan, who curates Women’s Soccer Coaching magazine, offers five tips to those starting out as a youth coach.

Her years of experience coaching both girls and boys at various age groups and levels shines through as she gives advice if you have put your hand up but don't know where to start.

Meanwhile, Dan Cottrell – editor of Rugby Coach Weekly – has teamed up with Paul Tyler to put together some exercises for helping players improve their core speed skills.

Elsewhere, Greg Mannion offers some thoughts on how and when we interact with our players and how we can go about better planning those interventions to get more out of them.

There are also two standalone practices – one on moving off the ball and another on passing and moving across the three zones of the pitch.

We wrap up with a three-part session which works on attacking at top speed. This is perhaps a good chance for your players to implement some of the sprinting work done in Dan’s activity!
