Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 29

For some, risk-taking is what makes them feel alive.

Saying yes to everything, taking on challenges, working with new people in different locations and never getting stuck in a rut. For others, the rut is exactly what gives them comfort - it is security, a sense of belonging and a feeling of familiarity. But sometimes you need to broaden your horizons, as Hannah Duncan and Simon Goodey - two of our contributors this week - have both done.

Editor of our Women's Soccer Coaching title, Hannah recently reluctantly left her U16s girls' team behind, having seen them grow from Under-11s, to coach a boys' under-7s team at a Premier League club.

In the Coach's Column this week, she describes the different challenges that has presented. Simon, meanwhile, spent time working at various academies in England before taking the plunge and spending a year in Spain. As Steph Fairbairn finds out in our Q&A this week, he is now back there full-time, teaching and coaching in Madrid.

Elsewhere, Pat McLaughlin has provided our main session plan this week, on switching play, while we also bring you an activity from experienced coach Keith Boanas on effective through balls.

And we have a fascinating insight from the FA's Ryan Davies into how you can make your sessions more accessible to colour-blind players. It might be an area you haven't considered before.
