Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 65

There is something for everyone this week.

Our cover image, which shows Kai Wagner challenging Uriel Antuna in this week's MLS All-Star Game, links to an article we have on defending as a team.

It is immediately followed by a practice in which three defenders use the advantage of an overload to pressure attackers into coughing up possession.

But it is not all about the defenders - we have the strikers covered, too.

Chelsea Foundation coach Rob Ellis has contributed a three-part session which is designed to increase the goalscoring output of your attackers.

Rob is a PE teacher as well as a coach, and the overlap between the two is the focus of our Q&A this week.

Steph Fairbairn has been speaking to another PE teacher, Ross Williams, for his views on where the subject fits within both school sport and soccer coaching.

He also discusses the importance of planning and reflection, and how to engage parents.

The Q&A is an abridged version of the full audio interview, which you can hear as a podcast by clicking the link at the bottom of page 10 or by subscribing via your usual pod provider.

Finally, Hannah Duncan - editor of our Women's Soccer Coaching title - has written this week's Coach's Column, on how to keep things vibrant and new when you are taking the same youth team through the age groups.
