Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 80

This week we have two articles which centre around coaches relationships with their players, but from different angles.

Both are sequels, as it were, to features in last week's issue.

James Mayley - a lecturer on the football coaching and management degree course at UCFB in England - follows up his piece on game-based session designs with a deep dive into player feedback.

It explores what feedback to give, when to give it and how, and is a useful guide to what can be a thorny issue.

The final part of James's threearticle series appears next week.

The Coach's Column is again written by Canada-based, Uefa Pro Licence coach Eduardo Badescu.

In part one last week, he spoke about the 'toxic habit' of rewards adversely affecting player motivation and retention in youth soccer - this week he discusses ways of motivating players to love the game more, including the concepts of player autonomy and skill mastery.

We have clocked up 50 podcasts now and so have picked out our favourite five from the archive - as well as highlighting another seven that cover a wide variety of coaching topics.

Our podcast comes out every Friday and you can subscribe for free via your usual podcast provider.

Finally this week we have practices on passing and receiving which will enhance players' technical and tactical development.
