A warm-up which combines both movement and dynamic stretching to get players ready for action.
This warm-up combines movement and dynamic stretching. The level of intensity can easily be increased so that the players are fully prepared for the main activity ahead.
Mark out a large area, with the size dependent on the number and age of the players. Split players into pairs – each pair has a ball and two cones, which make a set of gates.
All players pass the balls around the area. After passing, they must travel through a gate before they look to receive a different ball from another team-mate. The practice continues in this manner. After doing this for a short period, the task they have to complete while travelling through a gate can be changed. To begin with, this can be a different type of dynamic stretch, such as a walking lunge or a walking knee hug.
Then, the players can revert back to jogging through the gates, before sprinting through is introduced. The set-up could then be used for a possession-based practice, where the players are put into two teams and win points by passing the ball through one of the gates.
