This session promotes the benefits of players finding space and being in position to receive passes. Use this session as a standalone activity, or combine it with two progressions to create a full session
Helps players get into the habit of moving and altering their position so they can find space and be an option for the player on the ball.
A number of grids are set out using four cones to create a square. Three players are then allocated to every grid, with each player positioned on a separate side of the grid, leaving one side free.
One player starts with the ball and passes it to either of the other two players. Once a player has passed the ball, they must move to the empty side of the grid. The practice continues in this manner.
Progression: Limit players to a maximum number of touches; this can start with two and can then be progressed further to just one touch.
Players have to be thinking ahead of receiving a pass - they need to identify which part of the grid they will move to once they have passed the ball on. If they do not identify the space beforehand, they will take too long to move into it and will therefore be unavailable to receive the ball back.
